The Colmena Mina was a narrow track underground operation worked mostly by old style “pick and shovel” methods. Until Aurea’s involvement, no modern style exploration has ever been conducted on the property. This picture shows one of the old “stopes” worked on the property. Because of the labour intensive mining methods used in the past, most of the vein remains in situe today.Some of the diamond drill holes of the first phase exploration program are planned to test underneath these old workings. Assays are pending for 6 of the 14 holes drilled along the 2 km strike of the San Jorge Vein System. |
